Gov. Walker talks of success after trip to China

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Just back from visits to several Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai, Governor Scott Walker (R-Wisconsin) said one agreement worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Wisconsin has already been reached and another should be completed soon.

Gov. Walker held a news conference late Monday afternoon with executives from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area Chamber who accompanied him on the trip.

His journey included a visit to a new Harley-Davidson dealership, where he was presented with a T-shirt signed by all of the members of the H.O.G (Harley Owners Group) Shanghai chapter.

But it wasn't all fun and games, as the Governor said he helped negotiate a deal that could be worth as much as $400 million over the next ten years.  It would allow Wisconsin ginseng producers to provide their products to a large Chinese medical provider.

Gov. Walker says a second deal involving a Wisconsin ethanol by-product is also coming soon.

"We had Badger State Ethanol with us.  They signed a tentative agreement in that regard.  We'll have a dollar amount which will approach a similar dollar amount to what we had with the ginseng contract over the next several years and that announcement will likely come out in the next couple of weeks," said Gov. Walker.

Gov. Walker also encouraged the more Chinese students to study at the University of Wisconsin.  Their numbers have gone up 90 percent over the last four years.
