Local runners join nationwide run for Boston

MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Runners from all over the country took part in a run for Boston Monday.

Fleet Feet Sports sponsored the charity event in our area.

More than 300 people showed up to run in honor of the victims, including some who ran the marathon last week.

Middleton resident Brian Hamilton was one of them.

"Whether you finished, whether you were in the chute, or in your hotel room, it affected people in a lot of ways. And not all good. Some good."

Hamilton is still shaken by what happened.

"When I first got here it was a little hard to talk. It was overwhelming. But I'm very proud of this running community to come together and run for a good cause," he says.

Jessica Anderson is the owner of Fleet Feet and organized the local event.

She says, "It's not going to stop people from doing what they love, from running and walking. Madison is an amazing community and I don't think it's going to stop people from doing events."

Anderson had more than 100 T-shirts printed and sold to benefit the One Fund Boston.

The fund was created by the governor of Massachusetts and the Boston mayor, a symbol of some of the good coming out of the tragedy.

"It kind of reflects what I saw in Boston, says Hamilton. "Everyone knows what happened, so I don't need to rehash that, but I saw a lot of good during the tragedy. We all care and support each other even though we may not know each other."

Anderson says they've raised $5,000-$6,000 for the One Fund Boston this week.
