Wausau man held in dismemberment slaying

WAUSAU (WKOW) – A central Wisconsin man accused in the slaying and dismemberment of a Minnesota man is being held on $1 million bond.

According to a criminal complaint, Kou Thao fatally shot 58-year-old Tong Pao Hang, of St. Paul, in the basement of a Wausau home, wrapped his body in a tarp, loaded it into a car and drove to Milwaukee on April 17.

In the complaint, investigators learned that Thao had connections in Milwaukee.

Authorities say officers went to a house in Milwaukee the following day and were able to find Thao's car.  Officials say when they knocked on the door Thao fled and was later arrested.

Detectives searched Thao's house and found body parts, a knife and a tarp.

According to the Wausau Daily Herald, officials haven't commented on a possible motive in the slaying.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 1.
