Man's death in grain bin ruled accidental

MILTON (WKOW) -- Investigators say the incident where a man died in a grain bin last week was an accident.

Jerod W. Guell, 27, of Janesville was working in the lower portion of a grain bin at the United Ethanol plant in Milton when police say a large amount of corn collapsed onto him from the outer portions of the bin, causing him to become buried. Other employees tried to rescue him from, but couldn't.

After a 12 hour rescue and recovery operation, Guell was found in the bin late Friday night. The Rock County Coroner's Office determined Guell died of asphyxia due to compression of the chest.

The City of Milton Police Department investigated Guell's death and found no evidence of anything other than an accidental death.
