MADISON (WKOW) -- The Legislature's budget committee voted Thursday to eliminate 32.1 positions in the state Department of Natural Resources.
State Senator Glenn Grothman(R - West Bend) proposed the cuts during the meeting to begin voting on revisions to Gov. Scott Walker's executive budget. Grothman said the jobs have been open for at least a year, though his formal motion didn't explicitly say the positions to be cut would be vacant ones.
The committee approved the proposal on a 12-4 party line vote.
Democrats on the budget committee said Grothman's proposal included no information about the positions to be cut. Republicans said the DNR must be getting along without the positions since they've been open for months.
