Late arriving spring will not affect the fishing opener

MADISON (WQOW) - Even though there's nearly two feet of ice on most northern Wisconsin lakes, the Governor's office says this year's fishing opener is a 'go'.

The annual event to kick off Wisconsin's fishing and tourism season is set for next weekend near Cable. The DNR and northern Wisconsin tourism officials have now decided not to move the event further south in search of open waters.

They say parts of Lake Namakagon have some open water. They hope the warmer temps forecasted for this weekend will melt even more of the ice.
