Senate passes bill to restore F.A.A. funding; could keep Chippewa Valley Airport tower open

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Senate passes a bill to restore funding to the F.A.A. which would prevent the closure of many airport towers and air traffic controller furloughs. Many towers, like the Chippewa Valley Airport's, are slated to be shut down because the F.A.A. doesn't have the funds to keep them open. Many travelers blamed furloughs for delays at airports across the country. Under the measure passed by the senate Thursday night, the F.A.A. would gain authority to transfer $253 million from other accounts to prevent reduced operations and staffing through the end of September. Approval came Friday night, long after many senators had left the capitol for a weeklong vacation. A house vote on the measure could happen as early as tomorrow.
