UPDATE: Fmr. Walker aide to pay $24K in restitution

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A former top aide to Governor Walker will have to pay nearly $24,000 in restitution after he was convicted of stealing from a non-profit group.

A judge ordered 49-year-old Timothy Russell to pay $26,600.

But his defense attorney argues he already paid $3,000 during a hearing in January when he was sentenced to two years in prison.

Russell was Walker's deputy chief of staff when Walker was Milwaukee County Executive.

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A former top associate to Governor Scott Walker will soon find out how much restitution he owes, after he was convicted of stealing more than $20,000 from a nonprofit group Walker appointed him to lead.

Timothy D. Russell is scheduled for a restitution hearing Friday afternoon. The 49-year-old pleaded guilty in November to felony theft and was sentenced in January to two years in prison.

Russell was Walker's deputy chief of staff when Walker was the Milwaukee County executive. The criminal complaint alleges that Russell used his position and influence to gain financial control of the Heritage Guard Preservation Society. That's a nonprofit group that organizes outings for veterans to the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Defense attorney Parker Mathers has previously said the defense would agree to pay $22,000 in restitution.
