Man arrested for hit and run had blood alcohol more than four times the legal limit

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police say officers arrested a Sun Prairie man Thursday afternoon for allegedly driving drunk and hitting another car on the east side.

Police say 43-year-old Patrick Dolan, of sun Prairie, drove away from the crash on South Stoughton Road around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, after which other drivers kept police apprised of his position. He was taken into custody on tentative charges of drunken driving-third offense, hit and run and three traffic citations.

According to the police incident report, Dolan was given a non-evidentiary breath test at the Dane County Jail and registered 0.374, more than four times the legal limit for a driver with no prior drunken driving convictions.

The car Dolan is accused of rear-ending was driven by a 44-year-old Fort Atkinson woman.

"A witness who followed the suspect after the crash said he was weaving from traffic lanes onto the shoulders, and also stopped in the middle of Buckeye Road for no reason," said Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

Dolan eventually pulled over on Sprecher Road just south of Wyalusing Drive.

"He was found passed out behind the wheel by a police captain, the first law enforcement officer at the scene," DeSpain said.
