Eau Claire (WQOW) -- One of the area's best girls high school basketball players announces her college decision, Monday.
Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran's Abbie Hein announces that's she's verbally committed to play Division I college basketball at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
Hein is the leading scorer in Immanuel's program history.
"When I got on campus, it just felt right," Hein tells News 18 Sports Director Bob Bradovich, "and I thought I could see myself going there the best, and just the whole picture of it."
Hein, who also considered Slippery Rock (PA), Black Hills State (SD), & UW-Eau Claire, says the UMBC coaching staff thinks she can make the transition from the high school to the college game.
"They like how I can shoot a lot," Hein says, "and things to improve on, probably my speed and agility and my strength, and stuff, because it's a whole different game in college."
Abbie Hein was a third team Associated Press all-state selection this past season. Hein was also a two-time Division 5 all-state selection by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.
