Man behind an armed robbery sentenced to three years

Polk County (WQOW) - The man behind an armed robbery that didn't go as planned, is on his way to prison.

It was last year that  Alan L. Meyer was accused of trying to rob a gas station in Polk County.  The clerk said he showed a knife and told her to give him the 'big bills'.  But there weren't any big bills in the cash register.

To add insult to injury, the clerk told the robber she recognized him even though he was wearing a mask. At that point police say he said it was only a joke, and fled. And it turns out Meyer's girlfriend, who worked at the station, was the one who turned him in.  Meyer was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison.
