Circus World officials say their budget is in the black

MADISON (WKOW) -- Circus World in Baraboo says its financial outlook isn't as bad as the state makes it look.

An analysis by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau showed the museum would end the 2013 operating year with a deficit of nearly $98,000.

But Circus World says the analysis is based on a proposed budget, not its actual spending plan. That plan, approved by the museum's foundation in December, assumes the museum will generate $70,000 more than the preliminary budget estimated.

Officials say they'll end with a $29,335 shortfall, but that will be made up with $100,000 in gifts and endowments, leaving them with a balance of more than $70,000.
