Eau Claire (WQOW) -- Thursday's snowstorm in Eau Claire sends the Blugolds softball team back indoors.
Whenever the 2013 WIAC Softball Tournament begins, and wherever its played, UWEC will be the number one seed. Beyond that, the Blugolds don't know any more than the rest of us.
The conference tourney was scheduled to start Friday at Eau Claire's Gelein Field, but Thursday's heavy snow has moved the tournament back at least one day. The WIAC athletic directors will meet Friday at 11:00 A.M. to determine when and where the tourney will be played.
UWEC head coach Leslie Huntington says her team is trying to stay positive, even with so much in the air.
"If we give them any indication that we're really bothered by this than they are going to react in the same way," says Huntington about the coaches setting a good example for the players, "so we have to turn it into something that we can be productive with rather than saying 'Here we go again, back in the gym.' This is an opportunity for us to fine tune some things."
"I just think as a team we need to work on keeping our mental game there and not letting the negative effects of anything get to us," says UWEC sophomore outfielder Amanda Fischer, "just working on that and staying prepared."
As the one-seed, UWEC will have a first-round matchup against sixth-seeded UW-River Falls. UW-Stout is the four seed, and will play third-seeded UW-Oshkosh in the first round.
