Vehicle strikes Amish buggy, injuring 9 people

TREMPEALEAU COUNTY (WKOW) -- Nine people have life threatening injuries after a motor vehicle struck an Amish buggy Friday night in western Wisconsin.

The Trempealeau County sheriff's office reports the vehicle was traveling on Highway 53/121 at about 10:20 p.m. Friday when it struck the rear of the buggy.

Osseo residents David Wengerd, 37, Lydia Wengerd, 38, and seven children inside the buggy were taken to the hospital. The 19-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Officials say inattentive driving was a factor in the crash. The 19-year-old failed to yield to the slow-moving buggy.
