UPDATE: Suspect in stand-off taken into custody


Chippewa County (WQOW) - UPDATE: The suspect in a stand-off Monday, George Bearden, 45, gave himself up after teargas was used in the home. He was later taken to an area hospital to be checked out. 

Bearden was arrested for alleged domestic abuse battery and felony fleeing an officer.


Chippewa County (WQOW) - A standoff has been underway all morning at a home in rural Chippewa County.

A SWAT team and sheriff's deputies surrounded a home on County Highway K around 5 a.m. Monday.  

Officials tell us a man inside the home has refused to come out. The incident actually started around 9 p.m. Sunday, when a woman reported the suspect had attacked her, then fled with a shotgun in his car.

Deputies spotted the car early Monday morning and gave chase but eventually called it off.

Several hours later the man was spotted pulling into the driveway at County Highway K. Law enforcement surrounded the house around 5 a.m. and have been trying to talk the man out.
