Eau Claire (WQOW) -- For a third straight season, and eleventh time overall, the UW-Eau Claire softball program will appear in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Blugolds got beat Sunday in the championship game of the WIAC Tournament, but Monday morning, UWEC found out it received an at-large bid to the NCAA's UW-Eau Claire won a national title in 2008 after getting an at-large bid, so head coach Leslie Huntington says how the Blugolds get in, really doesn't matter.
"We get another chance here," Huntington says, "I'm really happy for our players and really happy for our seniors because the dream is still alive to play at Gelein Field finally this year. We're just going to go down there and we're going to play Blugold ball and we're going to see if we can win enough games to come back and play at home at Carson Park next week."
UW-Eau Claire is one of eight teams taking part in the NCAA Division III Whitewater Regional. The Blugolds will face North Central (IL), Thursday, at 2:00 P.M. If UWEC wins, the Blugolds will play either Benedictine (IL) or Illinois Wesleyan, Friday, at 4:00 P.M.
