Oak Creek police officers to be honored at White House

OAK CREEK (WKOW) -- The bravery of the Oak Creek police officers who responded to the Sikh temple shooting is taking them all the way to the White House.

Eight members of the department will be honored this weekend during a ceremony Saturday in the Rose Garden.

They are all recipients of the TOP COPS award presented by the National Association of Police Organizations.

The honorees include:

Officer John H. Finco
Officer Julie M. Grauberger
Officer Dean Kleinhans
Officer Sam Lenda
Officer Michael Schultz
Officer Derick Slamka
Officer Kelly Romel
Lt. Brian J. Murphy

Murphy was the first officer on scene and was shot 15 times, but survived. Officer Sam Lenda shot and wounded the gunman, Wade Page. Page then took his own life.
