DOT wants your input on Water Street Bridge replacement

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A local bridge is in need of replacement, and the state wants your help with its design.

The Water Street Bridge is slated for reconstruction in the next two to three years. The DOT held a meeting Thursday night to discuss the project. The state says the 66-year-old bridge is nearing the end of its life. The plan is to widen the bridge by 20 feet to allow more room for turn lanes. The DOT will hold more meetings like this one in the future to get ideas from the public.

"We'd like to have people come and take a look at it, if there's stuff that we need to know about it, if there's events, if there's any aesthetics being considered as part of the Confluence Project or with Phoenix Park. You know this is kind of a river corridor that Eau Claire should be proud of in the future, and we would like to know those comments and get that feedback now so we can accommodate for it hopefully in the future," says DOT Project Development Supervisor David Solberg.

Construction is slated to begin in 2015. The project is expected to cost between $6 million and $8 million and will be paid for by the state.
