MADISON (WKOW) -- The Joint Finance Committee approved a change to the state's residency rule.
Governor Scott Walker proposed removing the requirement in his budget.
But the plan approved by the JFC would require only police, fire and emergency workers to live within 15 miles of the city or county where they work.
The committee voted to prohibit any more restrictions than that.
Madison has a limited version of the residency rule and Mayor Soglin has spoken out against removing the requirement.
