Control towers to remain open

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Air traffic controllers will stay on the job at the airport in Janesville.

The U.S. Transportation Department said Friday that all 149 control towers originally slated to be closed will remain open at least through September 30.

Secretary Ray LaHood said the bill to end air traffic controller furloughs contained enough money to keep the towers open.

The towers, including 8 in Wisconsin, were scheduled to close in June because of the federal sequester cuts.
