Dane County kicks off construction season

Posted:

MONONA (WKOW) -- You'll see lots of orange barrels in across Dane County this summer -- that's because road construction season is here.

On Friday, the county had a ceremonial kickoff on Monona Drive, which is in the final phase of its reconstruction. Officials say when the road is done it will be smoother and safer, and it'll have on-road bike lanes, sidewalks and a multi-use path.

The project is expected to have a final cost of about $25 million.

The county has several other projects planned for this summer. The resurfacing of County Highway W from US Highway 51 through US Highway 12 along the towns of Deerfield, Christiana and Albion is already underway.

Later this month, crews will start resurfacing stretches of County Highway A from State Highway 78 to County Highway G in the Town of Perry, and rebuilding County Highway DM from County Highway V to the northern village limits of Dane.

Coming up in July, the county plans to rebuild County Highway PB from Sun Valley Parkway to County Highway M, near the Prairie Moraine Dog Park in the Town of Verona. The CTH PB project will include the addition of passing and turn lanes at busy intersections, including the Dog Park entrance at Wesner Road.

Later in the summer, CTH B in the Village of Cambridge will also be reconstructed from the south village limits to USH 12/18.
