Milwaukee homeless vet program gets new site

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A project for veterans in the Milwaukee area is getting a new home.

The Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative will move to an empty city of Milwaukee Department of Public Works site where they will store food and other donations from the public.

"From my perspective we're breathing life back into this property and we're breathing life for a very worthy cause," said Mayor Tom Barrett.

The Homeless Veterans Initiative has been around since 2008.  Organizers say it's an essential service, because one of every four homeless people in Milwaukee is a veteran.
