Barbara Walters retires from TV journalism

NEW YORK (WKOW) --- ABC News personality Barbara Walters announced she will retire from TV journalism in 2014.

The announcement was made on "The View,"  Monday.

Walters, 83, will still continue to be the show's executive producer.

Walters started her career as a reporter in 1961 on NBC's "Today" show.

In 1976, ABC hired her where she became the first female anchor on an evening news program.

In her career, Walters has interviewed every U.S. presidents and first lady since Richard and Pat Nixon.

Walters is expected to retire in summer 2014.

She says she looks forward to spending time with her daughter and see what the next generation of journalists has to offer.
