Late spring means a late start for Owen Park construction

Eau Claire (WQOW)- With our late spring, everyone is getting a late start on their summer projects and construction at Owen Park is no different.

Owen Park was torn up last fall to remove nearly 25,000 tons of contaminated soil from a gas manufacturing plant that existed 150 years ago. The hole was filled with clean sand and now the site is ready for the final touches. But because of the late spring, crews have had to wait to begin construction.

"We were hoping to be done with this project by the first of June and we're actually going to be starting close to the first of June. So that's how far off we are," explained Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Director, Phil Fieber.

Next week the city hopes to start work on the bike paths and re-seeding and planting trees. Eventually they hope to put in a pavilion. The project is expected to be done by the Fourth of July.
