Drug dealer sentenced to 13 years in prison

MADISON (WKOW) -- A convicted drug dealer from Madison will spend the next 13 years in federal prison.

24-year-old Damien Smith pleaded guilty to distributing crack cocaine.

Smith was part of Madison's focused deterrence program, which offers job and housing help to repeat offenders. Authorities say four months after joining the program, Smith began selling the drugs.

U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb said Smith's sentence needed to be lengthy because of his criminal history, which includes seven felony convictions and numerous misdemeanor convictions.
