Fire danger very high in Chippewa Valley

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The fire danger in the Chippewa Valley is very high right now while it's high in the rest of the state.

That's according to the DNR, who releases current burning restrictions and the state fire danger levels.

Right now 20 counties in our area are considered very high while the rest of the state is high.

The DNR has burning restrictions in place in 33 counties.

This is how the DNR measures forest fire danger:

  • Extreme - Explosive conditions—worst possible danger. Burning strongly not recommended.
  • Very High - Very dangerous conditions—fires very difficult to control. Burning not recommended.
  • High - Dangerous conditions—fires difficult to control. Burning not recommended.
  • Moderate - Fires spread quickly. Burn with extreme caution.
  • Low - Fires spread slowly—safest time to burn.
