Student expelled for hacking into school computer system

Altoona (WQOW) - The computer system at a local school is hacked and a student is now accused of doing it. That student has been expelled for the rest of his high school career.

School officials in Altoona say the computer system was hacked on May 2nd. The server was knocked out for about three hours. The school says that was a disruption for staff and students who were unable to use computers. But they say there does not appear to be any damage.

On Tuesday night a sophomore student was expelled. The school says the boy was on in-school suspension, using a school-issued laptop, when the hacking happened.

Police are still investigating the incident. The boy does have the option to take online classes to get his diploma starting in the fall.
