MADISON (WKOW) – The loud, low-flying planes will be appearing later this month in southern Wisconsin to spray for gypsy moth caterpillars.

The invasive pest feeds on the leaves of many species of trees and shrubs.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says residents can stay on top of when the planes will be in their area of the state by signing up for email updates at

There is also a recorded message available with updates at 1-800-642-6684.

Spraying will begin in southern Wisconsin and then move north through the summer, ending in July or August.
