New hearing for former UW Stout student accused of blowing up mailboxes

Eau Claire (WQOW)- After many years the case of a former UW Stout student, accused of putting pipe bombs in mailboxes, will once again go before a judge.

A federal judge will order a new competency hearing to determine whether Luke Helder is mentally fit to stand trial.  11 years ago this month Helder was accused of planting pipe bombs in mailboxes in several states.  Several went off, injuring six people, including four postal workers.

In 2004 a judge ruled that Helder was unfit to stand trial and he was committed to a mental hospital.
