Posted:

WASHINGTON (WKOW) – President Barack Obama is expected to meet with his disaster response team on Tuesday before delivering a statement on the devastating tornado that tore through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday afternoon.

Obama has already declared a major disaster in Oklahoma, ordering federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts.

On Monday, the president spoke with Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Rep. Tom Cole, whose home is in the heavily damaged town of Moore.

According to the White House, Obama told Cole that the American people stand behind Oklahomans as they recover from the disaster.

Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Craig Fugate is heading to Oklahoma on Tuesday to ensure that federal resources are being deployed properly.
