UPDATE: Chippewa River level rises again

Press Release from City of Eau Claire

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue in Eau Claire read 771.5, which is approximately 1.5 feet below flood stage of 773.  This is a 1.8 foot jump from Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service is currently forecasting a projected crest to reach flood stage of 773 on Wednesday evening.  This elevation may vary depending on precipitation over the next several days and the operations of the various Hydro-electric projects upstream.

Portions of Owen Park and Riverview Park have flooded.  Water may also reach the Owen Park tennis courts and the horseshoe driveway.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - After a round of heavy rain, the Chippewa River shot up overnight Monday.  Up six-feet, swelling to just below flood stage.

The national weather service predicts the river will hit flood stage Tuesday evening and could keep rising, depending on rain the rest of this week.

In Eau Claire the Chippewa River trail has been closed in several areas because of flooding.

Anyone who goes near the river is being urged to use extreme caution because currents are very strong.
