MADISON (WKOW) -- The Legislature's budget committee voted down Governor Scott Walker's proposal to create a Solicitor General's office within the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen said he needed the office to handle complicated cases and oversee appeals.
Governor Walker's 2013-15 executive budget had devoted $960,500 in general purpose revenue to fund five positions in the office, including the solicitor general, three attorneys and a legal secretary.
The Joint Finance Committee unanimously voted 16-0 to strike the provision from the budget without discussion.
