Bait and tackle sales way down in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW)- A local business owner says bait and tackle sales are down a whopping 50 percent right now compared to a year ago.

Mike Buroker owns Buroker's Taxidermy, Bait and Tackle in Eau Claire.  He says he's down $15,000 in sales compared to this time last year.  He blames the long winter and high gas prices.  Memorial Day weekend has always been good for sales, but Buroker says the weather forecast doesn't have him optimistic he's going to make much of that money back.

"We haven't had a nice weekend weather forecast yet this spring really and they're forecasting possible rain this weekend again," Buroker says.  "It's hard for people to stay positive and a lot of people are going to just stay home unless the weekend forecast improves or it's hard to say, but it sure has been a slow spring so far."

The DNR says fishing license sales are down 20 percent this year as well.
