2 officers injured in Monona parking lot struggle

MONONA (WKOW) -- Police say four people have been arrested after injuring two officers in a  struggle outside a wedding in Monona.

Monona Police Chief Walter Ostrenga says in a news release officers arrived at the East Side Club on Monona Drive shortly before 6:30 Sunday night after getting calls about a disturbance at a wedding party.

Police say a suspect tried to run someone over with a vehicle in the parking lot. Officers had to separate several people involved in the disturbance. Ostrenga says they called in Madison police to assist because of the number of people and intensity of the dispute.

Police say a man became combative with officers and bit one of them on the hand while the officers were trying to arrest him. While two officers attempted to control the man, other suspects tried to free him and attacked the officers.

Four people were arrested. Their names have not been released.

Two officers, one from Madison and one from Monona, were taken to a hospital for injuries. One suspect was also injured.

Police believe alcohol contributed to the incident.
