Memorial Day parade fills the streets of downtown Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) - There was plenty of red, white and blue on display across western Wisconsin at various Memorial Day events. The streets of downtown Eau Claire were packed for Monday morning's parade.

"What Memorial Day means to me is giving thanks to all the men and women who have served our country and protected its people. That's the reason we're all here," said Michael Bryn, who brought his son Sawyer along to the parade.

"What we enjoy today, there was a very high price that was paid, and it was paid a long time ago, it's still being paid today by our current military, you know, our vets and their families, and it will continue as long as we continue to enjoy the freedoms and all that we have in this country," said Allison Wright of Independence.

"Due to this country's history and how we've treated some of our veterans in the past, I think it's really important for our current soldiers serving the country and our past soldiers, that they see our support on a regular basis, and especially during a national holiday like Memorial Day," explained Dan Gruebele, who watched the parade with his son, Crawford.

The parade began at Wilson Park at 9:30 Monday morning. It went along Barstow Street and turned onto the Lake Street Bridge before ending at Owen Park.
