Sun Prairie softball headed back to state with 12-1 win over Verona


WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- The Sun Prairie softball team is headed back to the WIAA state tournament for the second year in a row with its 12-1 rule rule victory over Verona in the sectional final Thursday night. Verona led 1-0 after one inning, but the Wildcats scored the next 12, run ruling Verona in 5 innings. Sun Prairie junior catcher Cheyenne Holmes had a huge night offensively with a solo home run in the third inning and a grand slam in the fourth. Sun Prairie moves on to play in the state tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison. The Cardinals face Westosha Central next Thursday at 1:30 pm.
