Probation, jail time for child sexual assault

SPARTA (WKOW) – A Tomah man accused of sexually assaulting a child dozens of times has been sentenced to probation and jail time.

Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Mark Goodman sentenced 19-year-old Shawn Mayberry to ten years' of probation and one year of jail with work-release privileges.  Mayberry pleaded no contest to three felonies, including first-degree child sexual assault.

According to the criminal complaint, Mayberry began assaulting the girl when he was about 15 or 16-years-old.  The victim, who is now a teenager, told authorities that Mayberry assaulted her 60 to 70 times over three years.

The complaint also says the victim came forward in November and said Mayberry's brother, Holden, began molesting her in 2005 when she was 8-years-ol and continued for three years.

The La Crosse Tribune reports that Holden Mayberry has been declared incompetent to stand trial.
