Expiration updates for Social Security, Medicare

WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- The government came out with new expiration dates for the nation's two biggest social programs: Social Security and Medicare.

The latest trustee assessment gives Medicare and extra two years compared to the last report; the medical fund is now expected to run out of money in 2026.

The social security date was unchanged, at 2033.

The new report warns that despite the small improvement in Medicare, both it and Social Security face significant funding challenges as the giant baby boom generation continues to retire.
