MADISON (WKOW) -- Homeowners should be aware of unauthorized home repair workers who promise to repair homes after large storms, but do not finish them.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says the scammers show up after a major storm and offer to do driveway, siding, roofing, or paint work at a good price.
The workers ask for up front pay, but do not finish the job. They also steal homeowners' valuables when they perform a free indoor inspection.
Officials warn homeowners to never let these workers in or give into their sales tactics. Homeowners should call the police immediately if someone starts a job on their property without permission.
