"All in the Family" actress Jean Stapleton dies at 90

NEW YORK (WKOW) -- The actress who played Edith Bunker on "All in the Family," has passed away.

Jean Stapleton's son said his mother died on Friday of natural causes at her New York City home.

The stage-trained actress co-starred with Carroll O'Connor in the 1970's series about an unrepentant bigot, the wife he called "Dingbat," their daughter and liberal son-in-law.

Stapleton was nominated for an Emmy eight times, winning three awards during her eight years on "All in the Family." The CBS series was the No. 1-rated program for an unprecedented five years in a row.

Stapleton was 90 years old.
