Manure truck tips over, spills load

Rusk County (WQOW) - Part of a highway was shut down for two hours on Monday to clean up a manure spill.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says a 4,700-gallon manure truck tipped over while pulling onto the shoulder of Highway 8.  It happened near Ladysmith in Rusk County.  The driver had pulled over to allow traffic to go by before making a turn onto a side road.  The weight of the truck on the soft shoulder caused the truck to overturn onto its side, spilling the majority of the load into the ditch.  The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old from Durand, was taken to Rusk County Memorial Hospital for a possible shoulder injury.

Authorities said Northwest Sanitation was able to pump liquid manure out of the ditch and from the tanker.  The DNR was there to make sure no environmental hazards existed.
