60 years of ordination celebrated at Sacred Heart Hospital

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A special church service was held at Sacred Heart Hospital Sunday. It was in recognition of the hospital's priest celebrating his 60th anniversary of being ordained.

Monsignor Edmund Klimek is now 85 years old. He was originally ordained in La Crosse back in 1953. Monsignor Klimek joined Sacred Heart Hospital as the Priest Chaplain in 1968 and has been with the hospital ever since. On Sunday, a special ceremony was held to honor his service. He says he wanted to be a priest in order to help others follow the Catholic religion.

"The priest, through his preaching at masses, through his education programs, through personal interactions with people, is able to again help people grow in the love of almighty God," says Klimek.

There were more than 200 people in attendance at the special mass. Monsignor Klimek says he is hopeful to keep serving in his current role as long as his health allows it.
