River Falls (WQOW) -- Tops on the list of luminaries taking part in the annual Northwestern Badger Golf Classic at the River Falls Golf Club, is University of Wisconsin football coach Gary Andersen.

The first-year Badgers coach actually has to change his schedule for the golf outing due to what's being called an "unexpected recruiting opportunity."

For Andersen, recruiting is a non-stop part of his job.

"Recruiting is every day, there's not a day off in recruiting, it doesn't matter if it's Christmas Day or Saturday, you're always recruiting. Great staffs have great players, and great staffs take care of young men and help them move themselves into position of becoming men and go through their career, but you have to recruit, every day."

While Andersen is in River Falls, reports surface that quarterback Danny O'Brien has left the Badgers football program.  One source cited says O'Brien will transfer to Towson University, an FCS school.   O'Brien hadn't been able to move up the depth chart during spring ball, but Andersen feels good about the guys he has, including incumbents Joel Stave and Curt Phillips, Bart Houston, and incoming transfer Tanner McEvoy.

"Bart's still with us, a young freshman, and you know, he's in a developmental part of his program, the other three young men are going to come in and they're going to fight for the job, and Joel's done a nice job in spring, Curt did a nice job in the spring, Tanner's with us now, he just got on campus and he's ready to go, so you know, I feel good about the competition, and you want to create competition at the quarterback spot, just like the rest of the positions, and we'll take our time, and when we feel it's right, we'll make the decision."

Andersen says his main priority between now and the start of fall camp is to make sure guys are fresh when they report, but he still wants everyone to make progress in this final part of the offseason.
