Eau Claire (WQOW) - The DNR has some big shoes to fill. The agency's point person on frac sand mining is retiring.
Tom Woletz started with the DNR in 1975. His official title is senior manager or special projects coordinator. In recent years, he's been leading the DNR's oversight of the growing frac sand industry. Wisconsin now has more than 100 frac sand mines and 65 processing plants.
Woletz will leave at the end of the month. WQOW News 18 reached out to the DNR to ask how the position would be filled. There's no word yet from the agency about what it plans to do.
