Search for WI's oldest refrigerator saves energy

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- If you've got an ancient icebox, Focus on Energy is looking for you.

The statewide agency pushing for energy efficiency in Wisconsin is holding a contest, offering a reward for the state's oldest refrigerator. The prize: $1,000 and the title of Wisconsin's Oldest Refrigerator.

A Focus on Energy spokesperson says they'll even pick it up from your home, provided that you clear a path for removal. Fridges and freezers must be electric, in working order, clean and empty.

In addition to the contest, anyone who recycles a secondary refrigerator or freezer will get $50. The recycling program is available year-round, but the Oldest Refrigerator Contest only runs June 1 through August 31.
