Oak Creek officer retires after surviving temple shooting

OAK CREEK (WKOW) --  The policeman who survived a dozen gunshots in the Oak Creek temple massacre retired Friday.

Lieutenant Brian Murphy received a standing ovation from the community as he wore his uniform for the last time.

He spent 22-years with the Oak Creek police department.
Murphy was the first officer to arrive at the Sikh temple murder scene last August.

"While this chapter in my life is never going to fully close it's not a door shut that's for sure, it's me moving past it now," said Murphy.
Murphy isn't wasting any time starting his new career.
He begins work Monday at the company that makes the bullet proof vest that allowed him to survive a dozen rounds.
