MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Instead of shedding tears, the Mt. Horeb girls soccer team was all smiles after falling 3-0 to Catholic Memorial in the D2 WIAA state soccer game. Emily Cervantes scored twice for the Crusaders, and Kelsey O'Brien knocked in the other. The Vikings had earned runner-up in Division 2 for the second year in a row, a tremendous accomplishment considering the program has just made its first trip to state the year before. Mt. Horeb ran into a powerhouse in Catholic Memorial in the final game. The Crusaders made their ninth appearance to state in the last 10 years, now winning six of them.
"We had a good season, but they're not satisfied and that's good," Mt. Horeb head coach Mark Newman said of his team. "Our program is to the point where just getting here isn't enough, but we know we played a very very good team today. My girls gave everything they had out there and sometimes that's just not enough."
