Moderate Republicans seek state budget changes

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Some of Wisconsin's Republican state senators want to make some major changes to the state budget, despite other GOP leaders standing firm behind the current plan.

Some moderate Republican state senators want to undo a statewide expansion of private school vouchers and accept a federally funded Medicaid expansion.

The $70 billion, two-year spending plan is expected to be debated in the Assembly on Tuesday, put together by the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee.

Gov. Scott Walker and leaders in both the Senate and Assembly have publicly said they want the budget to pass without major changes.

Republican Sen. Rob Cowles says he's actively seeking changes, but wouldn't elaborate to the Associated Press.
