UPDATE: Body found in Chippewa River is missing UWEC student

Brian A. Carlisle, J.D.
Dean of Students
University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
The UW-Eau Claire Police Department has informed me that the body of David Patrick Rodgers was recovered Monday evening from the Chippewa River. David, a sophomore mathematics education major, fell into the river April 19.
I have been in close contact with the family over the last two months, and I spoke with David's parents last evening, sharing with them our campus community's continued support. Please keep David's family in your hearts during this difficult time.

UPDATE -- Eau Claire Police say no new missing persons reports have been filed in recent days/weeks.  They say the last missing persons report that remains an open case was filed in April when David Rodgers, a UWEC student, disappeared after going into the river.

A canoeist made the call to Eau Claire Police around 5:50 p.m. on Monday.  The body was discovered 40 minutes later about a quarter mile downstream from the bridge.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire Police say a body has been pulled out of the Chippewa River.

Police say canoeists spotted what they believed was a body on Monday not far from the Short Street Bridge.  The Eau Claire Fire Department then launched a boat and recovered the body.  There's no word on an identity.

As more information is released, we'll post it here.
