Press Release from the Clark County Sheriff's Department: On Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at about 9:15 am the Clark County Sheriff's Department received a 9-1-1 call of a car versus train crash on Century Rd. just east of Basswood Ave., Township of Unity.

Initial investigation indicates a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Charles S. Podbelsek, 81, Spencer, was eastbound on Century Rd approaching the railroad crossing.  Investigation showed Podbelsek did not stop at the stop sign at the crossing, striking a southbound Canadian National train.  The Caravan was thrown south of the crossing where it landed on its roof.  Podbelsek was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The train was being operated by Jeffrey L. Graff, 56, Superior.  Investigation is continuing and this is the second traffic fatality for Clark County in 2013.  The Spencer Fire and Ambulance and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
